Disability-Based Medicaid

What It Covers

  • Emergency services
  • Prescriptions
  • Lab and X-rays
  • Family planning services
  • Preventative services, including immunizations (shots)
  • Mental health services
  • Chronic disease management services
  • Ambulance transportation
  • Non-emergency medical transportation

For children under age 21, Medicaid also provides:

Depending on your circumstances, Medicaid may cover some long-term care services, including nursing homes. Contact your local Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) office for more information.

More Services through Medicaid Waiver Programs

People who qualify for disability-based Medicaid may also be eligible for Medicaid waiver programs. These programs pay for additional services that help people live in their own homes if they might otherwise have to live in an institution, like a hospital or nursing facility.
