Long-Term Services and Supports Programs

Support for Working

Paid work means you have more money to pay for the things you need and want and can live better. There are federal and state programs that can help you find, get, and keep a job. This page introduces some of these programs and their services.

Ticket to Work

Ticket to Work is a federal program for adults (age 18-64) with disabilities who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). It connects people to agencies that offer vocational rehabilitation, training, job coaching, and placement services.

While you are in the Ticket program, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will not do medical Continuing Disability Reviews (CDRs), as long as you make timely progress in meeting your employment goals. That means you won’t lose eligibility for SSI or SSDI for medical reasons.

Vocational Rehabilitation

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) helps people with disabilities train for, find, and keep a job. Their services can include:

  • Vocational counseling and training
  • Job searching and placement
  • On-the-job training
  • Assistive technology
  • Job accommodations
  • Medical or psychological testing
  • Home and vehicle modifications for employment-related purposes, and
  • Transportation.

Most of these services are free or the cost is based on how much you can afford. To get GVRA services, you must have a disability, want to work, and find it difficult to find or keep a job because of your disability. Find your local Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) office.

GVRA also offers specialized Sensory Services for people who are blind or have low vision, or who are deaf or hard of hearing.

These services can include things like instruction in Braille and mobility training for people who are blind or have low vision, and things like interpreting services and hearing aids for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as counseling and other vocational training services.
